NACA Supports Bipartisan ALERT Act
The National Air Carrier Association (NACA) supports House action advancing the bipartisan ALERT Act and views the proposal as a pragmatic step toward reducing midair collision risk across the National Airspace System. The legislation pairs an expanded ADS-B In requirement with a broader set of measures designed to address operational hazards, particularly those arising from interactions between helicopter and fixed-wing traffic. These provisions include strengthened coordination procedures, enhanced risk evaluation, and more deliberate review of flight routes and operating environments.
A key strength of the measure is its reliance on a flexible, outcomes-based framework rather than prescriptive technology mandates.
“The ALERT Act creates a pathway for widespread adoption of ADS-B In capabilities in a way that is both practical, flexible, and scalable,” said George Novak, President and CEO of NACA.
NACA appreciates the efforts of Chairman Sam Graves and Ranking Member Rick Larsen of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, along with Chairman Mike Rogers and Ranking Member Adam Smith of the House Armed Services Committee.
NACA encourages prompt House passage of the ALERT Act to ensure that the operational and technological improvements outlined in the bill can move toward implementation without delay.
